First, never give your ftp password to anyone you don't know.
Second, ask your server administrator for the correct path to your cgi-bin
Third, there's many, many reasons for the internal server error. Please paste the relevant line(s) from your error log. If you don't know where it is or if you have access to it, please read your hosting company's manual for error logs or ask your server administrator.
