Gradute Research Assistant Seeks Help
My research involves using a 3-D finite element model to determine the electromagnetic response of complex shapes.
What I'm looking for:
Our model requires an input file that uses certain parameters (length, width, height, resistivity1, resistivity2,Angle) to refine the FE mesh. The parameters have have been generated randomly from specific probability density functions and are contained in a spreadsheet
Model 1,length, width, height, resistivity1, resistivity2,Angle
Model 2,length, width, height, resistivity1, resistivity2,Angle
Model 3,length, width, height, resistivity1, resistivity2,Angle
Model 4,length, width, height, resistivity1, resistivity2,Angle
I am under the impression that a Perl script can be written to place the numbers from the spreadsheet to the text file and then execute the model. The model processing time is about 2 hours until completion, once completed an output file should be placed into a separate directory. The process will then be repeated by consecutively overwriting the previous input file. I am trying to decrease exhausting hours of copying and pasting in order to get this done in a timely manner, the projects completion date is this summer.
What these parameters define are different types of hydrocarbon reservoirs, our data was taken from reservoirs in the gulf of mexico. Large scale controlled source electromagnetic surveys are becoming a popular asset to oil companies and when combined with seismic data can reduce risk on costly exploration wells. Research using EM as an exploration tool is a fairly new to the industry, and I am really interested in getting our results.
I am a masters student in geologist/geophysics at the University of Louisiana @ Lafayette, I'm interested in how these complex shapes differ in response when compared to a background signature. I don't have much programming experience and would appreciate some help. If there is anyone out there who enjoys science and would like to donate their help, it would be much appreciated, of course you would be referenced and cited for your work. Hopefully this work will get published. If anyone feels this project is to complicated for donation, I would be willing negotiate a price. I do have a small research grant to aid research expenses. I am not affiliated with an oil company, the project must be available to the public therefore no proprietary data has been used.
