Re: regular expressions

You think that regexes should be covered separately from "Beginner", "Intermediate" and "Advanced"?

Do I hear a second, third vote?

Re: regular expressions

Actually I would prefer to see a really good article with lots of examples in it. There are tons of articles out there about it but all they do is give you the definition of what each item does. Not how to use them in conjunction to do things. Most regex that I have gotten from ppl here have several functions all in one. An example would be how to find urls in a documents. That took several lines and was more complicated then I would have ever been able to come up with.

But I guess if all else fails a forum for them would be nice. Smile

Re: regular expressions

Regular expressions are often a nightmare. I've got a perl book which has pages and pages devoted to this topic but gives very few practical examples. The one I had most difficulty with was validating an email address - I found an expression somewhere an use it and pray that it is correct.. I'd love a separate forum on this so I'd know where to look for info and background.

Re: [Jasmine] regular expressions

(bump)

What about a tutorial?

Nothing all encompasing but maybe very elementry, bigginer like.

I know there are alot of tutorials out there but different points of views and styles of teaching vary.

I am new to PERLGURU and have ben helped every time I logon. I think a semi/quasi tutorial-like thread would be cool.

Just a few cents that came to my mind while reading some old posts.

Re: [demon01] regular expressions

This forum is largely abandoned so don't expect anything to happen here. There are already many good regexp tutorials, for beginners too, you just need to do some searching is all. Unfortunately I am not on my regular PC with all my bookmarks to point you to any of them. A good place to start is www.perlmonks.com in the tutorials section.
