French characters from Excel

Hi all

I am getting an Excel spreadsheet with French names (e.g. LÉVESQUE)

I need to insert that to Oracle database (I know to use

use utf8;

binmode FILEHANDLE,':utf8';

but, here I need to insert to the database. How do I do that? The characters in the database appear to be corrupted

Thanks

ZA

Re: [zatlas1] French characters from Excel

Do you need the accented letter to be kept or removed?

If it need to be kept, well the problem might come from your database rather than Perl. Which database? Which character set is used in the DB? Can you insert accented letters in the database using another program than Perl?
