Re: path to mail?

By default, a mail program isn't installed on local computers. Errr, one that can be used with a Perl program, that is. A couple of options:

blat, WindMail and Sendmail.

I prefer sendmail because I have one of my drives on my local computer mirrororing our remote linux servers (in terms of file paths and software). This really saves me programming time by allowing seamless deployment from one platform to another.

Re: path to mail?

You should know by now that most things worth having on Windoze isn't free Wink

However, blat is free. Sendmail isn't. Your choice.

You'll have to refer to the documentation for blat to learn how to use it in your programs.

Sendmail usage is the same as on Linux. You can download the demo version to test it out -- I registered it right off the bat, so I don't know the possible limitations of the demo version.

I really don't get why it's a "ripoff" -- programs don't write themselves. If a freeware version isn't available and a commercial enterprise chooses fills in the gap, they have the right to choose to be recompensed.

It always irks me when someone says that anything that isn't free is a "ripoff". In that line of thinking, Redhat, Windoze and 90% of the available operating systems are ripoffs (okay, so some would agree that they are anyway, but you get my point).

So don't buy them. You always have the option to write it yourself and give it away for free. If you don't have the expertise to do that, don't begrudge those who have out of a reasonable fee for their work.

As you can see, this is a pet peeve of mine.

Re: path to mail?

Ummm -- why? Smile Apache and Sendmail are 2 different programs written by 2 different sets of programmers.

Re: path to mail?

Why not try Mail::Sendmail - a "Simple platform independent mailer"?

Re: path to mail?

I downloaded and set blat on my win2000.
How do I use Blat to send inputs through email? Please help.

I have a very simple script that take inputs from the user and email them to the admin. I used sendmail in Linux and it work fine, but it does work with blat on Window.

here is part of the script:
sub MailAdmin {
open(MAIL, "|$mailprog -t");
print MAIL "To: $adminaddr\n";
print MAIL "From: $name\n";
print MAIL "Subject: Test Result\n";
print MAIL "\n";
print MAIL "The following is the test result on $use_date\n";
print MAIL "Passed:\n";
print MAIL "\tLM32s\t= $LM32P\n";

print MAIL "\n";
print MAIL "Total:\t $TotalF\n";
print MAIL "\n";
print MAIL "Brief Comments:\n\n";
print MAIL "$DATA{'Comments'}\n";

Any help on how to use blat program with the script above is very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Re: [Jasmine] path to mail?

this works just like on a unix sendmail right?

I can call it say with a tell a friend code such as [url=http://designz.yoll.net/tell_a_friend.html]this, without adding a ton of stuff?

and i agree with the reasonable charge, i have written a couple of quick programs, I Gave them ppl, they made money from using one or two (not much but still made cash) and then i get complaint emails from users such as :

*oh how come i cant do this with this-that-and-the-other, blahty blahh can do this with their version of another program that they brought*

Reply: i will consider adding it, but u got the program for free, whats the problem? you havent lost nothing, your making free cash!

*cant u add the feature now?*

reply: No, im busy with things im doing on my site, If you want to have the feature now, dip you hands in your pocket and buy your friends version, or ask your friend to send it to you!

can get a bit of a p--- off for ya when u spend your time, and people arn't happy with what u give em! :arggh:
