Form Question

You know when you are using a form and you put,

<input type="file" name="path">

To pass a path to a file to your script.

How can you have a preset value in the field. value="blablabla" doesn't work.

I need a way for people to edit there path once the've choosen one in the first place.

I'm pretty tiered so if I sound retarded it's not my fault,

Thanks,

Tony

Re: Form Question

Well i read your question and i tried everything that i could with my html skills and all the HTML editors and nothing would should the value of such a tag.
Front Page 98 would not even give me the form field properties.

If you want a visual way to show the path maybe have a drop down menu. or if a non visual way use
<input type=hidden.....>

But to answer your question again.. I dont think there is a way to show a value with a tag like <input type=file...>

Re: Form Question

You can't. At least not with straight HTML as preset values are somewhat of a security concern, with the two major browsers opting to ignore any default set rather than prompt the user for consent (per the RFCs).

Perhaps you can kludge things with JavaScript or perhaps you should turn your eye to a Java solution instead?

I even tried forcing a value into the field using javascript. I'm think of some way around it.

Thanks Guys,

Re: Form Question

No, not even with javascript could I get this one to work for me.

What I wound up doing was just using the old file if no new file is specified. It's still blank in the field, but I at least mentioned the file name below the field to show that it was remembered and already in use.
