append filenames Can't Post

read a subdir for multiple files with ext. "ul_gen" and then read each file line by line and take the 1st 3 numbers of each line for 1st part of new filename, then append the actual filename prefix which is always a set of arbitrary numbers to those 3 #'s found in rec then change file ext. ul_gen to "upld". 1234.ul_gen becomes 930.1234.upld if its 1st line started with 930, until all files & linereads exhausted. Having trouble putting it all together.
