Perlguru on IRC Can't Post

Hi every body,

time to time, users of perlguru connect on IRC and chat together for fun, we're on EFNet in #perlguru come and have a look if there's someone there... (sadly, there's nobody most of the time).

if you dont know what is IRC, it is a live chat network. It allows people all over the Internet to type to one another in real-time.

- For windows you can use: mirc

- Mac users will like: ircle

- Unix people should already have a chat program on their machine (try "irc" at the prompt); or have a look to bitchX for console, or xchat for X-Window (and it runs perl plugins!!! Smile )

When you've got the software up and running, you then need to connect to a server. But first, you'll need to pick a nickname, a short name that everyone will see you as on IRC.

To set a nickname, use the /NICK command. For example, on the
command line enter:
/nick freddo

The next step is to actually connect to a server. If the nick you have chosen is already being used by someone else at that time, the system will tell you and you'll have to pick another nickname.

#perlguru is on the EFNet network, you'll need to connect to a server. Each kind of software has its own way of connecting, but all software will allow you to type in and enter standard IRC commands from the command line. In this case, you'd want to use the /SERVER command followed by the address of an EFNet server, and possibly followed by a port number (this is optional).

There are many EFNet server addresses. You can find a complete list of them. The command to connect is:
/server irc.homelien.no

Once you are connected, joining the #perlguru channel is simple. You just type:
/join #perlguru
and you're on!

So i hope to catch you over there...

There's already a #perlguru on dalnet, started by japhy some time ago, but hardly ever used.

Whichever you guys prefer...

Re: Perlguru on IRC [In reply to] Can't Post

well, i went and got irc, so i will leave it on whenever i am on, so if anyone would ever need to get ahold of me.. ill be here..
btw i am on EFNET, only for the reason that it was what i went on when i read freddo's post.. so i will stay there unless guided otherwise...

I Hope this helps...

perl programmers don't die.. they just start writing a new script.

Oh, cool, i will have a look on Dalnet too, we'll just choose where the peoples are going the more. I often see japhy on EFNet in #perl, though.
