Can someone explain this to me? Can't Post

I used a counter on my site a while ago, and every once in a while the txt file that held the numbers would be deleted, causing the counter to start at zero again.

A few days ago, the same thing happened with the index.html on my messageboard. I am using Matt's wwwboard if that helps.

Now I am wondering why the heck this is happening. I am thinking that either two people happen to post something at the same time and this messes something up, causing the problem. If this is the problem do you think that flock() would clear up the problem? Could it be something on the server that is doing this? I am at a loss. thanks for the help.
