Windows 2000 and Apache problems	Can't Post

Yes I know this is not exactly about perl but I am trying everywhere I can about this and I can't get to my perl questions until I get past this part.

I have installed Apache on my windows 2000 machine. But when I try to start it as a service I get an error:

Anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong? Also is it in the Apache configuration or the Perl configuration that I tell it that I want to be able to use either .cgi and/or .pl extensions? Thanks.

Hi

Thats apache configuration problem your having.-> I never have used windows 2000 but in windows 95 or 98 to fix that problem you would go into your control panel then click on network icon then double click on tcp/ip then click on the DNS Configuration tab then click the radio button that enables the DNS -> then for host you would put the of your computer and for the domain that owuld be your isp and then add 2 dns numbers-> call your isp to get the 2 dns numbers.
AND THATS IT....

You would edit the Apache httpd.conf file in order to use either .cgi and/or .pl extensions. So this means click on your apache folder and click on the conf foolder then double click on your httpd.conf(dont click on the httpd.conf.default file) then look for this part in the file

# To use CGI scripts:
AddHandler cgi-script .pl

Then just add whatever extension you want
You wanted extension .cgi and .pl then do this:

# To use CGI scripts:
AddHandler cgi-script .cgi
AddHandler cgi-script .pl

Well, Well,

I'm not the only one trying out win2000.
I only have one question. Did you upgrade from 9x or NT 4.0?

I attempted to upgrade and nothing would run correctly. I then installed clean and would you know everything started working. Funny thing about MS is not everything is reverse compatable and Apache build for NT 4.0 may not run correctly on Win2000.

Well I have gone both ways as you have an can say, NEVER EVER try to use the update. I am a tech for a company and have had to do many installs of NT4.0 and several supposed upgrades to W2K. Although every upgrade I have done has crashed at one point or another. So I highly recommend you simply install in a new directory and then reinstall your programs in the same directories you had them installed on Win95/98/NT. However if you are installing W2K on after WinNT then you will need to choose another directory instead of WINNT. Don't rename WINNT for WinNT unless you never ever plan to use NT. Well if you need any help with any version of Windows go to http://www.speedcorp.net We can help you over there instead of on a Perl board. hehe
