I must admit how surprised I am to see how this thread has degraded. RedRum, your initial thoughts would probably have been better made by [url=http://perlguru.com/gforum.cgi?do%3Dmessage%3Buser%3D671=Send+Private+Message]sending a private message to mmcw2201. Better yet, a reply to the original poster with something like "It's always a good idea to check references and current works before you hire anyone or give them access to your server". That reply would have served to forewarn howdy and may not have been taken personally by mmcw2201. If howdy wished to hire mmcw2201 (or any other person met on- or offline), the first thing he needs to do is check their posts to see the types of questions asked and/or the quality of responses he gives. He should ask for a resume, references and have the ability to look at completed projects. At that point, he may or may not have chosen to pursue a business relationship. I'm sorry, but I find the initial post confrontational and unnecessarily embarassing. The last one ("U bent een stom kind. Ga weg." => "You are a stupid child. Leave.") was completely inconsistent with the goals and desired image of this site. mmcw2201, it's not required of anyone reply to questions. They volunteer their spare time to help people and receive no monetary compensation for their efforts. Their only reward for helping people is their own satisfaction and the occasional "thank you" from the person they helped. Telling someone to stop their nonsense and help isn't incentive for them to help you. I see that RedRum has helped you with many of your questions, so saying that he's not willing to help other people is incorrect, and you know it. Perhaps he didn't know the answer to your cron question or chose to not acknowledge yet another "write my code for me/fix my problem for me" post. Many of your questions could have been answered by reading the perl or module documentation or trying to understand the error messages you were receiving ([url=http://perlguru.com/gforum.cgi?post=17685]recursion error on free()? Check your free() subroutine or post it. [url=http://perlguru.com/gforum.cgi?post=17671]Don't have command line access or a host that will install modules you need? Get a real hosting account, because you can't make any modules or programs without some form of shell access). Granted, RedRum's post offered a lot of room for defensiveness, but your personal comments made in a foreign language was also inappropriate. I've never heard of anyone being called a "nipple" before -- must be a Dutch thing.
If you hired a secretary and saw him/her asking a colleague how to spell, would you not ask her why she applied to become a secretary if she couldn't spell? Poor analogy, IMHO. The ability to spell does not define a good secretary, although it helps. What does help is the ability to solve problems with any available means without bugging your boss. Can't spell a word? I'd prefer to see the secretary pull out a dictionary or use a spell check, but if time is of the essence, asking someone is just fine. That's what these and most other forums are for. A place to ask questions and help others if you can. mmcw2201 didn't say anything about charging; only that he may be able to help. As long as he was honest about his capabilities before any fees were determined (if fees were to be part of the picture at all), I see nothing wrong with his post. I'd fire a secretary in an instant if he said he types 85WPM and could only do 30WPM. Please keep less-than-polite comments private. I'd rather not see this sort of public bickering here.
