Unfortunately, I don't think you can. My experience has been that most servers do not intercommunicate and therefore your flat db file would not be accessible by other servers in a clustered environment. Most times I have found, you have to have a tiered environment where there is a Database server (DB2, Oracle, Sybase, etc) sitting behind the firewall with access granted only to the web servers in the cluster through aliased IP addresses. I would be interested to know if you find any other way to do this that is still secure.
