GD and Image Manipulation Can't Post

I have been writing a CGI program in Perl that displays a nice list with descriptions of the image files in a certain directory. I have been trying to find out how I can write my script to automatically generate thumbnail images (i.e. resize the originals). Thru some research, I found out that I would probably need the library called GD installed on the server to do any image manipulation. My two questions:

Is there any other method besides using the GD library to resize images with CGI apps?

Is there any Perl Module available (for free) that can handle image resizing? or any example code I can look at?

Thanx (this is a tough one)

Not sure if you already know there's a module called Image::Magick in the PerlMagick distribution. You can do just about any kind of image manipulation with that module. And of course you can do resizing. It's an interface to the ImageMagick library functions.
Hope this helps.
