Perl Script to run on KIOSK boot-up workstation Can't Post

Hello:
I need help to write perl script to run on a Kiosk workstation upon boot-up that will ping for network accessibility and return a code,if successful.If successful,the user is presented with the corporate intranet,otherwise a "Contact Local Technical Support' message appears.Please give me solution if any one have idea,thanks

Ya know, posting to multi forums will only make the people here upset, please keep it to 1 post per question!!!!!
