Please HELP ME !!!!	Can't Post

hello, i have recently installed microsoft M.E., and have installed perl activstate build 616
i have also installed perl TK, this is the problem , when i use TK win M.E either crashes or hangs, no error message or anything and i am forced to reboot. It is vital that i get perl TK working on my computer as it is necessary for my work , i would be greatful for ANY advise regarding this issue.

my advise,

get as far away from ME as possible.. i had ME before i upgraded to XP and i had soooo many probs with it, i use dzsoft perl editor, and ME wouldnt allow me to bring down dz into my taskbar, i could use it, but for some reason when i went to minimize it, it did nothing.. plus i would say that atleast 70% of the programs that i ran on ME would crash it at some point in the useage. i recommend Windows ME to all my favorite enemies and people that have hurt me in the past.

just my 2 cents.

I agree, get rid of ME, it has caused me loads of wasted time by getting problems with things that don't have problems.
I use win2K (pro) with perl and it is quite happy.

Just an other note.

Never upgrade a perfect working system into a just recent new OS version full with bugs, errors yet to be discovered etc.

Just wait and observe how other users react on the new software and some fixes come out.

However, I consider Win ME more like Win98 3rd edition., which explains enough about the new features (what features?? ;-D)

Well thankyou for the reply, i eventualy found out what was wrong and it had absolutely nothing to do with TK, it was a windows general protection error as i was calling dos from a perl script ie $x = `date`; etc. I downloaded a patch which then screwed my system and forced me to reinstall. DONT INSTALL WINDOWS ME !!! This is what i have learned and will be shortly upgrading to win 2000. Thankyou so much for your replies. I bet C programmers wouldnt be that nice ;) .

I can only encourage you to upgrade to Win2K. I've had zero problems with running various Perl script I've written under Unix, Win98 and WinNT.
Oh, what's your problem with C programmers???

I have no problem with c programmers ;) well............ not trying to sound like an american but, PERL RULES !!!! ;) Well i suppose if i were trying to sound like an american i would have just dived right in and not thought about the consequences.

I have to say that i am shocked and insulted.. killing innocent people?? well what about the 5000+ people buried in the rubble in lower manhatten?? was that fair? should we sit back and go .. "well, you darn terrorists.. we would really like to get you back, but we cant because you are protected by a country that makes you all out to be heroes for killing americans. and helps you out by letting you make drugs to sell to US AND ENGLISH children so that you can get rich and plan future attacks"?

well james.. i want you to do 1 thing for me.. sit back for a few seconds of your busy life and think.. what if it were me? my family that was killed by terrists? would i sit back and say, no, the people that protect the terrorists are innocent?

they are not innocent... they are the ones that made the choice to harbor these dredges of sociaty..

and i REALLY think you need to stop believeing everything that comes out from TALIBAN TV, it is proven that they lie to make themselves look better and i have to say.. who to believe, The coalition, that has gone to great lengths to not involve those who did not harbor the terrorists, or a bunch of lowlife cowards that sent men over to USA to use force to hijack CIVILIAN planes and drive them into a CIVILIAN building..

James, please do not judge what is happening now without weighing what has happened in the past..

Firstlyi dont think im the one under some sort of illusion, the simple fact is, that if -i- had a group of terrorists and bombed the towers and claimed it an act of christianity would that then justify soldiers coming to england and killing innocent people ?
Im in support of stopping the terrorists, the simple fact is that innocent people are being killed in the process, you cant stop violence with violence, killing innocent people doesnt make the americans right. The actions of one do not reflect a nation and that is why it is wrong to kill innocent people in afghanistan, in english news its a "war against terrorism" in america its "a war against aghansistan", go figure.
No offence was intended, i am deeply sadened by the events but unfortionately my faith that America and England are doing the right thing by killing innocent people is quickily fading. Im sorry if this causes offence by my opinion is my right and in no way am i trying to belittle the event of september.

ok, well as for the above i have to ask, do you think that we are some barbarians.. running through afghanistan killing every thing that moves? The americans AND the English AND 3/4 of the rest of the world are doing all we can to ensure that innocent do not get killed, but this is a WAR.. It is a very sad part of war, but it is in fact part of it.. but believe me when i say that the coalition is not intentionally trying to kill any innocent, unlike those terrorists in afghanistan.

As for you saying that America sees it as "war on Afghanistan" ... THAT IS SOOO WRONG... I live in the US and i have NEVER seen any news or any other people say that this is a war against afghanistan.. if we did believe that, why would we send them food, and try to help the innocent afghanies? This is in fact a war against terrorism.. that is unfolding in afghanistan..

Let me ask you this, how would YOU suggest this matter be taken care of ? ?

Take the IRA, through negotiation a peace was established and as few people were injured as possible. They bombed and killed a number of times but we didnt send the english army to Ireland and kill the Irish. As for the americans sending them food, this is obviously a good thing if you ignore the fact that the americans have a habbit of destroying the places that store the aid. Of course i dont think your barbarians! but this is 2001 and war isnt the answer, nogotiation is the key, i realise that you should not have to negotiate with terrorists but war is never the answer surely looking back through history we should have learnt that by now.
My ONLY point is that "starting war is never the answer" i cant stress this point enough, how can you possibly think it is?
If you think otherwise you might as well tell your children to "hit people when they do nasty things".
As for what i would do, god only knows but surely war isnt the right thing to do. I back the English army because i have faith in the system and i love my country just as much as you love yours it doesnt mean that i wouldnt investigate other routes of action before taking steps we will never be able to take back .

Just a question.... how many hundred years have the Jews and the Islams been fighting and or negotiating over control of Jerusalem and surrounding areas? I'd generally consider myself to be optomistic, but I'd also say about 2 millenia of this crap proves that neither work too well.
