I've tried typing https in stead of http at my local testserver (Windows 2000, IIS 5.0). That only causes my browser (IE 5) to wait for a reply and finally timeout. This must be obtained from the web host. Then, with some other 'magic', all of which I have never done, the website is set up with a port 443 site for the same IP address as the port 80 (standard HTTP port) pointing to the location of the SSL Site. BTW, I write programs in perl for a major consumer credit lender and they all are used over SSL. I just don't create the sites. I notify the Hardware folks to get the certificate and set up the site.
