SSL connection Can't Post

What is required to set up a SSL connection?

I've tried typing https in stead of http at my local testserver (Windows 2000, IIS 5.0). That only causes my browser (IE 5) to wait for a reply and finally timeout.

Re: SSL connection [In reply to] Can't Post

A SSL Connection requires an Encryption certificate (usually from Verisign, but there are other companies out there now that provide the same thing). This must be obtained from the web host. Then, with some other 'magic', all of which I have never done, the website is set up with a port 443 site for the same IP address as the port 80 (standard HTTP port) pointing to the location of the SSL Site. Once this is done, I believe all your woes are ended.

Re: SSL connection [In reply to] Can't Post

1: So I can't provide the SSL connection (I thought it was some special HTTP header)??

2: Are there any things I need to change in my script, in order to make it work with a SSL connection (or just the http: into https:)??

Re: SSL connection [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Correct

2. Nope. Just program as usual.

Good Luck. BTW, I write programs in perl for a major consumer credit lender and they all are used over SSL. I just don't create the sites. I notify the Hardware folks to get the certificate and set up the site.

HTH,
