Searching through your website...howto?? Can't Post

What kind of a technique should I use to make a CGI script search through my 'forum post files' (or HTML files)?

- Should the results be cached, so the browser can request the 2nd result page faster?
- How do I prevent some overload, and CPU usage of my webhost?
