So, uh, if i want to stretch learning what i can do with this cgi stuff, can i use cgi to create html page files onto floppy discs too? or am i thinking of what i should just do with Word and/or html? -- (... but, once i catch on ...)

Perl can be used for a very wide variety of things. Counters, Databases, Creation of HTML, and the list goes on almost as far as your imagination.
