Problems... guess who? Can't Post

Hello Jasmine,

Let's go for another problem i get on the site... I'm damn sorry to have to post them and really want NOT to annoy you, i'm quite happy this web site exists, it really enlighten my perl experience...

Ok, here it is: when people use the [[perl]] tags, copy/paste doesnt look really well when i do it from Internet Exploder 6 (the one shipped with XP), there is no new lines, so the whole code is on a single line (that doesnt mean it wont work, but it's messy and replacing ";" with ";\r\n" doesnt help too much). I know i could run it thru perltidy, but could you please add a \n before the <BR> it will fix the whole thing.

Btw, this prob is only on IE, opera and netscape do the work nicely.

Did you also noticed the following (strange) behaviour of the square brackets (see my post source):

[ jasmine ] [ pro_4 ] [ mhx ] [ mxh ] [ freddo ] [ non_existent_user ]

Opening a square bracket, space, username, space and closing the brackets will make a link to the userinfo on the site, quite funny Crazy and it dont works with users like mxh (doesnt exists) are you sure this behaviour is wanted... ?

Again, i dont want you to see me like an annoying person (well, i guess now you do Angelic) it's not to bother you, just a few details, like those, well, you know...

The behavior is wanted. [ RedRum ] has written a plugin to make this work. IMO it works a little too predictable to be an unwanted feature... Wink

The only thing I dislike about it is that it works in [

Code
] and [[perl]].

Code
use strict;
use constant mhx => 42;
use constant pi => 3.1415926535;

my $constants = [ mhx ];
push @$constants, pi;

In the above, mhx was supposed to go into [ ] ...

-- mhx

At last with an effort he spoke, and wondered to hear his own words, as if some other will was using his small voice. "I will take the Ring," he said, "though I do not know the way."

Are you using the advanced editor? If so, I'd recommend using the standard editor. The advanced editor is a wysiwyg editor and copying/pasting does odd things to me, too, but that's because the advanced editor is often too smart for its own good Wink You can change your settings to use the standard editor by default at [url=http://perlguru.com/gforum.cgi?do=user_profile_display;]http://perlguru.com/gforum.cgi?do=user_profile_display;

mxh doesn't work because his username is mhx Wink The plugin makes sure the username exists before it links it. If you don't want to use this feature, you can simply not put any spaces between the open and close brackets, like this [mhx].

And no, I don't think you're annoying. I really appreciate the feedback. Smile

Hello Jasmine,

No this is not the problem Crazy, the fact is that when me or other peoples use the [perls] tag to make code colored, like this:[perl]# same, but quick hack to remove HTTP headers (only for binary files)
$fetch = get ("www.perlarchive.com", "/i2/logo.swf");
$fetch =~ m/\r\nContent-Length: (\d+)\r\n/;[/perl]when you copy/paste it from Internet Exploder 6, into notepad (for example) it will look like this:
# same, but quick hack to remove HTTP headers (only for binary files) $fetch = get ("www.perlarchive.com", "/i2/logo.swf"); $fetch =~ m/\r\nContent-Length: (\d+)\r\n/;

This behaviour can be fixed by adding a \n before the <br> tags in your html beautifier (dont ask me why... but i just tested).

I'll be the first to admit that I don't quite understand the plugin system, so I don't know where to make the modification. I've looked into no less than 10 files, trying to add the \n and it's not making the change.

[ RedRum ] made the perl/nperl plugin, so I'll have to defer this question to him, who at this point probably wishes that he never made the plugins Blush

hehe, well, that's no real problem until now, it's quite easy to s/;/;\n/, to B::Deparse, or to use PerlTidy, and have everything look nice, i just told you about this because somebody else may be having the same problem, it looked like an easy fix.

I was a little worried to annoy you, NOW i know that RedRum hates me too... Wink
