Encryption and Decryption Can't Post

Does anyone know a method of encryption and decryption, which doesn't use a module. It can either use standard code and the cgi.pm module.

the variable I would like to encrypt is:

$ben = "Ben Chivers";

but I must be able to decrypt it as well afterwards.

Also does anyone know if people browsing the web can gain access and download the cgi script to see the source code. Is it possible?

Many Regards,

Ben Chivers
Wheres the damn coffee? zzzZZZZZ!!!
