Once again we have moved to a newer, bigger, better, faster server. You may notice some downtime during 8/24/2002 - 8/25/2002 while the DNS updates.
YANS (Yet Another New Server)
We have been carefully monitoring usage of these forums to determine the best time to effectuate the move with the least disruption to our users. Seems like everyone likes to go out on Fridays, so 6pm CST was the cutoff. perlhead.com is the current placeholder for perlguru.com while its DNS modification is completed. You can continue to use perlhead.com in the future if you wish.
If you're pleased with any site improvements (particularly with speed or additional upcoming features), please let us know. We always like to hear when you are satisfied with the site.
Here's some new site features to be on the lookout for:
Suggestions are always welcome! [url=http://perlhead.com/gforum.cgi?do%3Dmessage%3Buser%3D2=Send+Private+Message]Send me a message
- Improved Learning Center. We're going Slash! Thanks to many people, including [url=http://perlmonks.org/index.pl?node_id=1382]chromatic, we're switching the format of the Learning Center to Slash. This will allow anyone to submit articles/snippets/whatever for moderator approval. This will also make searching the Learning Center easier and article commenting possible.
- Articles Galore. This probably should be part of the Learning Center note above, but we have many quality articles ready for publication. Authors include Dave Cross, chromatic, Darrin Hussman, and last but not least, Stas Beckman. We also have a variety of publishers donating chapters of their Perl publications for your reading pleasure. Note that these publishers do not receive compensation for republishing chapters on our site, so please, if you find the sample chapters useful, remember that there's much more information in the book (buy it!).
- Free email returns. With our new server (and with the help of [url=http://gossamer-threads.com/scripts/webmail/]Gossamer Mail), we will bring back our popular web-based email service. You will have a selection of up to 5 different perl-related domain names to choose from. Be on the lookout for the poll in this announcement section and in the new Learning Center so you can vote on your favorite perl-related domain name from the group of names we have. Only the top 5 choices will be used, so be sure to cast your vote!
