what language would do this Can't Post

Hi, I recently put a ad in ScriptLance for a perl script that would take a snap shot thumbnail of a web site, but no one has made a bid on it. I have had about 10 people ask me for more info, but no bids. Since I left the amount I would pay for it open, I started to think that maybe Perl couldn't do it. Maybe I need Java, or some other language.

Does anyone know of a script that would do that? Or any ideas what language would be the most appropriate for this type of script?

What I want it for is similiar to how Alexa displays their results with a thumbnail of the web site.
-thanks

animan,

If this was dynamic, then there should never be a point that Alexa does not have an image to display. However, this is not true. There are times when there is no image. For example, they do not yet have an image for kellybluebook.com.

Also, if this was dynamic, the images would be the same as the image on the web site, which it is not.

You may be hoping for a tool that doesn't exist. It may be just raw man-power that captures and saves these images for display.

Good Luck,
Dennis

Thanks, I was beginning to think that maybe it was just a bunch of people actually doing it instead of an automated script. One person suggested VB (I think) might be what I want.
At least I can stop bothering people now. :)

Thanks again,

Hmmm, it may be possible to do if it is possible to access the windows API for capturing a screen shot. For instance, you could have a list of urls (dynamic or whatever), and then use Win32::OLE to force IE to go to a webpage, full-screen it, capture the screenshot, crop it to remove the border using ImageMagik, and then save it to a database/directory. It shouldn't be too difficult if it is indeed possible to access the screenshot API. If you contact me, I'll look into it ;)
