Perl is a Script Language.
Generally the source code is 'compiled' to bytecode just before execution.
The bytecode is finally interpreted by the virtual machine (vm) running on your webserver.
(Just like Java)
The command "perlcc -b prg.pl" gives the possibility to save the bytecode, so the vm does not have to translate before execution.
"perlcc prg.pl" should compile to a C-executable (not necessarily faster than script-code)
If you get perlcc (usr/bin/) to work ;-)
I don't know about Integrated Development Environments for perl - probably there are?
