regular expressions Can't Post

please, can somebody explaing to me what regular expressions are? I know they're used for searching documents ... but after that!! I don't even know how they work. I do have a basic knowledge of linux commands like grep etc.

To explain the concept on regexs here is probably a little out of scope but basically regexs are for pattern matching. Your best bet is to check this out...
