ferrisbueller New User Jan 26, 2003, 11:58 AM Post #1 of 4 (1324 views) Creates random security code Can't Post I have a program on my web site that functions like that of Hot Or Not. You post your picture and get rated. To register you must enter your username, password, and email and then click on the activation link sent to your email. Yesterday, a robotic script signed up for my site 1700 times. I had to bring my site down to avoid a DDOS from my server. I am guessing the way to get around this is to embed a module that creates a random security code by pulling pictures of numbers, that you must enter to register. I have seen them before, yet I cannot find any scripts that have it in Perl. Please help, so I can put my site back up ASAP. If there is another solution please advise.

Cookies are easy to fake but without knowing you are performing that check then the spammers attempts will fail. If they figure it out then you could get your script to generate a random temp file which can't be faked by a spammer as they can't create a file on your server.

I am not familiar with Perl so I don not know how to write the script. Could you tell me what to search for on HotScripts or show me how to write it? Thanks.
