Developing Perl in win32 ? Can't Post

Hi there !

I'd like to start programming Perl, but I'm not sure how to make it work locally on my computer.

I've downloaded ActivePerl and I've already got Personal Web Server installed, but it doesn't seem to work.

I tried with a very simple 'Hello, World' script, but it comes up with an HTTP-error 405 : Method not allowed (translated from danish).

I run the script through http://localhost/.... wich is set up to run scripts.

What is wrong - what do I have to do ????

I hope someone can help !

Mich

Hello Mich,
This sounds very much like a server problem. You can test to be sure like this:
First goto a Command Prompt (DOS)
Then goto the directory where your simple "hello world" script is (ex: cd
C:\script).
Now type
perl hello.pl
Replace hello.pl with the name of the script. If you get "Command not found"
this means Perl is not in your path.
You can set that in your autoexec.bat.
Open autoexec.bat in notepad. It is in your C:\ directory.
Look for the line
PATH=
If this line is not there add it
PATH=C:\PERL\BIN\PERL.EXE
If it is there you need to add the path to perl to this. I believe the paths
are separated by ; but I am not totally sure. Please see the documentation on
formating.
After you do that reboot.
If you still cannot run a perl script on the command line like I described
above you need to reinstall perl.
If you can run a script on the command line there is something wrong with your
server. I have never used Personal Web Server so I can't help you on that. Try
using Apache for Windows(http://www.apache.org). They say it is a bit unstable
but I have never had problems with it.

I sure hope this helps
Let me know how things turn out.

I have several scripts that we run on a day-to-day basis on IIS4.0 and NT Server. We had trouble at first but seem to have gotten it down. If you give me an e-mail address, I'd be happy to e-mail our form-mail or some other scripts to take a look at.
