Should I learn Perl or C? Can't Post

Hey guys, I want to get into information security and feel that I have learned enough about the weapons and tactics involved this field. Most of the security books now rehash the same material so I'm looking to branch out into programming and learn something new. Exploit development is commonly done in C, but Perl I hear is great for working with text and doing log analysis. Why exactly is Perl better than C for working with text, and which is the easiest language to learn? I've already taken a couple programming classes (Qbasic and VB) but I am by no means a good programmer. Any suggestions? Try to keep the answers as unbiased as possible for me. :)
