Compare lists from several files Can't Post
Hi,
eventhough I am able to write programs in different languages Perl is still mystery to me...and now I have a application which can most probably be done in perl very easyly.
Here is my problem: I have a list (txt file with tabstops) with several different x and y coordinates and I have lists of other x and y coordinates. Now I need somehow to compare these lists and find the coordinates with the closest distance to the x and y coordinats from list 1.

Not sure if I can help you out or not, but for anyone to help they will need to see how the files are formatted. Attach a good sample file to a post and explain anything that is unclear.

hey,
the files are tab stop seperated tables. I attached the files. The file contains the long list with the original entries. In the second file (not atteched but same layout) contains the entries that need to be found in the first file (one of the columns contain a number which can be linked to the first file).

You will need to explain what you want done in much more detail. Examples of input and output would also help.
