TK writing to a text area Can't Post

I've moved a program over to TK and although it works, it's not quite how I want it to. When you click the start button the program runs through a loop and creates output that I want written to a text area. Problem is the output doesn't get written until all iterations of the loop have finished. Can someone point me in the right direction of how I can get the output to the text area for each pass through the loop? Code is essentially:

TK setup stuff
sub push_button {
while ($x < 50) {
do some stuff
$txt -> insert('end',"Program output\n");
