DBI & DBD-mysql setup Can't Post

Hi,

I only have a very basic understanding of perl, but am working on a website that uses a lot of it. It is a stock photo website and uses ImageFolio to create databases, handle searches etc. I have used it a lot in the past but have upgraded to the commerce and ySQL version. The software is great but the customer support is non-existent so I am trying to get to grips with things myself.

I have found the files that relate to the MySQL element and am trying to get it set up although accept that this might be impossible with my knowledge and lack of product support. In the mysql.pl file is a commented out section as follows:

# To install on win32:
# 1) In DOS prompt enter "ppm"
# 2) ppm> install DBI
# 3) ppm> install DBD-mysql
#
# The latest version of ppm (version 4) starts in GUI mode and does not include the DBD-mysql module. So do this:
#
# 1) In DOS prompt enter "ppm-shell"
# 2) ppm> install DBI
# 3) ppm> install http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/DBD-mysql.ppd
#
# Or you can use do this:
#
# 1) In DOS prompt enter "ppm-shell"
# 2) ppm> rep add uwinnipeg http://cpan.uwinnipeg.ca/PPMPackages/10xx/
# 3) ppm> rep 2 (assuming that the repository you just added is the #2)
# 4) ppm> install DBI
# 5) ppm> install DBD-mysql
########################################################

From my limited knowlege, this looks like instructions for installing perl modules on a local computer. What I am trying to work out is why this would be necessary - surely any perl module would be installed on the remote server? So is this something that needs to be set up locally, to then set up the perl/mysql configuration before upoading to the remote server? Or is it someting entirely different.

Very much feeling my way in the dark here so apologies again for the basic nature and any light or direction would be very useful.

Many thanks

Chris

I replied in your other thread of the same subject.
