Excel is not a database, it's a spreadsheet program.

Did you save the file in xls format or csv?

Re: [moshezri] Excel search [In reply to] Can't Post

There are several modules on CPAN that are used to parse xls files, such as Spreadsheet::ParseExcel or Win32::OLE

http://search.cpan.org/~jmcnamara/Spreadsheet-ParseExcel-0.43/lib/Spreadsheet/ParseExcel.pm
http://search.cpan.org/~jdb/Win32-OLE-0.1709/lib/Win32/OLE.pm

You could even access it as if it were an sql database with the use of DBI and DBD::Excel

http://search.cpan.org/~timb/DBI-1.607/DBI.pm
http://search.cpan.org/~kwitknr/DBD-Excel-0.06/Excel.pm

Another option would be to save the file in csv format and use DBD::CSV
http://search.cpan.org/~jzucker/DBD-CSV-0.22/lib/DBD/CSV.pm
