#!/usr/bin/perl won't work. Can't Post

I'm completely new to perl & I can't get the #!/usr/bin/perl line to work. I am running Linux Suse 6.4 & I used the command "echo $PATH to see if Perl was there but it was'nt.
My system does have perl cos I can get to the Perl interpreter by typing Perl at the command prompt but it's very inflexible.
PS I also tried #!/usr/local/bin/perl but that didnt work either.
Is this a Perl problem or is it a linux problem?
Please help as I only have one month to learn Perl.
Thanks

Does linux have a "find" program? Just search the hard disk for perl, then wherever it is, use that instead of /usr/bin/perl
