Assigned to write a Perl script, but I'm a novice.

Hello All,
First post here.
I opened my big mouth the other day and was awarded(?) the task of writing a script in Perl that does the following:
i) Scans all files on a windows partition and creates a hash value for each.
ii) The script then needs to compare that output against the output of a second scan after some files have been altered.
I am at a complete loss on this. If anyone can point me in the write direction of some easy to comprehend tutorials or manuals online or can offer some advice, I'd be ever so grateful.
-- My instructor provided me with small bits of code that I can post if needed.
