Can't locate SelectSaver.pm in @INC Can't Post

HI,

I am running my very simple script in MS-DOS. I have perl5 for MS-DOS.
So when I am running the script it gives an error saying:

Can't locate SelectSaver.pm in @INC (@INC contains: c:/perl/lib/perl5 c:/perl/lib/perl5/site C:/perl/lib/perl5/site) at c:/perl/lib/perl5/IO/File.pm line 110

I checked the SelectSaver.pm exists in lib folder. I tried to copied it into IO folder, but it didnt help.

please help!

ikarapet,

You need to use a package manager to install Perl modules. Depending on your OS/Perl flavor, this could mean CPAN, the L/Uinux package manager, or ActivePerl's package manager. What's your situation?

Cheers,

Larry

Hi ikarapet,

Read the CPAN perldoc (type "perldoc CPAN"). If you are impatient, try:

Code
perl -MCPAN -e shell
cpan>install SelectSaver

The first time you run CPAN it will ask you a ton of questions:

1. For the most part, just accept the defaults.
2. Tell it you want to follow dependencies (ask is ok too, you just have to hang around during the install to say "yes" to the prompts).
3. Pick your region and select a few mirrors to download packages from. I have no recommendations about which ones are better than others.

UPDATE:

It could be that your installation of IO/File is screwed up, also. If things still aren't working after the SelectSaver install, Try running CPAN again and [re]installing 'IO::File'.

Cheers,

Larry

That module, SelectSaver, doesn't look all that useful to me. Are you sure you want or need to use it?

Kevin thanks for reply.

I am not using the SelectSaver.pm directly, but I want to work with files, so I use IO:FIle.pm which is using the SelectSaver (that's what I saw in FIle.pm code).

Is there any other way to work with files, I mean not using the IO:File module ?

Hi ikarapet,

You mean "MSDOS" as it DOS6 or are you running some flavor of Windows? What, exactly is your setup?

Cheers,

Larry

Since IO::File is a core module (not sure since when though) SelectSaver should also come with perl. Or did you have to install IO::FIle?

It's FreeDOS (its a free version of MS-DOS). IT's not any flavour of Windows.

I didn't install anything. I just copied the Perl folder to my MS-DOS environment and tried to run perl.exe with my script file. I dont know whether I need to install something. I dont know how to install in Ms-DOS (it's not Windows). Maybe the problem I am getting is because I didnt install something in DOS.

Urk. I have no experience with Perl on FreeDOS; but, it seems like there's something screwy with your perl installation or with your DOS environment. If I were you I'd get on the FreeDOS forums and ask what is the best way to install Perl on that platform. Perhaps others here will have more help.

Good luck.

Larry

Sorry, I know nothing about FreeDOS or its environment. I suggest you ask on www.perlmonks.com and see if any member there has some experience in this area.
