help with reading xml array into variables Can't Post

I have a SOAP script that brings back XML - here is the script..

Code
 #!/usr/bin/perl -w##use strict;
use LWP::UserAgent;
use HTTP::Request::Common;
use SOAP::Lite;
use XML ::Simple;
use CGI::Carp qw/fatalsToBrowser/;
##use SOAP::WSDL; - <u>christ this works!</u> use warnings;
print "Content-Type: text/xml; charset=utf-8";
my $fieldsearch = 0;
my $fieldvalue = "cats";

my $message = "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\"?>
<soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv=\"http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/\" xmlns:xsd=\"http://babel.webservices.book.nielsen.com/xsd\">

my $FS = "</xsd:fieldSearch>

my $FV = "</xsd:fieldValue></xsd:params>

</xsd:param0>
</xsd:getSearchService>
</soapenv:Body>
</soapenv:Envelope>";
my $sendit= $message.$fieldsearch.$FS.$fieldvalue.$FV;

my $userAgent = LWP::UserAgent->new();
my $request = HTTP::Request->new(POST => 'http://wsqa.nielsenbookdataonline.com/webservices/services/BDOLWebService?wsdl');
$request->header(SOAPAction => '"http://babel.webservices.book.nielsen.com/xsd"');
$request->content($sendit);
$request->content_type("text/xml; charset=utf-8");
my $response = $userAgent->request($request);

if($response->code == 200) {
print $response->as_string;
foreach

}
else {
print $response->error_as_HTML;
}

and the response is:

An outsider might see the pet receiving food, shelter, grooming, play and affection. But what do you get? With this book, and the help of your cat, you might find the keys to living a better, more fruitful, spiritual life. There have been hundreds of books written about cats (and at least a dozen times that many calendars), but none does what this book achieves. It's time that cats taught us a thing or two about our own lives. Observing the basic skills and patterns of cats is a doorway to knowledge about a life lived in contentment. From the patterns of play, to the need for sleep, to finding joy in the smallest of things, cats show us how to reach inside ourselves for higher goals, a less stressful life, and a newfound ability to purr in tune with the world. This book is for cat owners who want to recognize the lessons their animals teach daily. It isn't enough to know that "cats purr when they're happy." Owners want to purr, too!</NBDLD> <NBDBIOG>Joanna Sandsmark And Her Cat, Trace, Live In Los Angeles, California. I am sure I should be able to put the actual data in variables but my knowledge of Perl did not cover how to deal with this sort of array.

Can someone give me an example please, I really need the help.

Re: [snoop] help with reading xml array into variables [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi snoop,

Read the XML::Simple perldoc. I recently posted a short example using it here: http://perlguru.com/gforum.cgi?post=36278;search_string=XML%3A%3ASimple;#36278.

Good luck,

Larry
