security problem	Can't Post

I have got a script that gathers information from an HTML form... it is pretty basic. I used to have the information e-mailed to specified address, and that was never a problem. I have since changed it so that rather than e-mailing the data, the scipt appends the data to a file. My question is this: some of the information I would like to store is sensitive (a social security number). Is there a way to secure the file at all so that it is not accessable/viewable by the general public?

I assume that you mean not visible through a browser.

There are several ways to accomplish this, depending on what environment you're running in, and what web server you're running. The easist way is to locate the file outside of the virtual tree that the web server sees.

Another way is to configure the web server to deny access to the file (or selectively allow access). To go this path, consult the web server documentation.
