To run a program backend and come to the next.

Hi every one,
I need to know how we can execute a program in the backend. i.e., the browser shouldn't depend on the completion of the program.
I mean to say that when a button is clicked in the html page it has to call a program and in turn will call another program which has to run in the backend. And then finally, it has to come out of the program.
This is my requirement............
is this possible to do??? if so, how???????
Let me know if you are clear with the question other i will post again with clear cut requirement.
