installing modules	Can't Post

I have an NT machine with Sambar Server installed. I have been unable to figure out how to install modules. While I have been working with perl for a few years now, I am new to NT and I am new to directly dealing with a server. My host has always been an Apache/Unix setup and if I need anything done...I just send an email...its done! But now i am trying to do some work on an NT Machine...and I am lost!

I've been to some sites and downloaded some modules (xxx_xxx_tar.gz), used Winzip to unzipped them but nothing I try will succeed when it comes to the 'perl makefile.pl' command. I am certain that I am just missing something easy but I am out of ideas. Can anybody help me out?

If you're running ActivePerl (which appears to be the most common Win32 port), you can use ppm.bat to install modules.

It's very intuitive, so you shouldn't have any problems.

If you don't have ppm.bat, then you'll need to download nmake from Micros~1 or dmake, which are make replacements on Win32 (a search for either should turn up links) and run through the standard module install procedure.

I was not running ActivePerl, but I am now. It is easy to install modules now. I should have installed it awhile ago.

And as near as I know, running Winzip on a .tar.gz file will not work, as a Winzip archive compresses several files at once, where with UNIX, you use the tar command to archive the files together, then the gzip command to compress the .tar file that was created.

Well at least you got everything working.
