xml config based deployment

Hi,
I am planning to automate deployment of a project using perl. This requires reading in some directives from the user, such as sym links, user name, directory names, etc. and based on this input, updating a set of config template files. I am thinking of defining the user input file as xml to allow defining different types of input. Then based on it updating the templates and writing the various config files, binaries and symlinks. Is there an existing module, framework or example I could take reference from so that I could make this as complete and extensible as possible?
