Need Help on Record Processing ?? Can't Post

I have large flat file where my records are stored in folowing format:
link=id
for example: www.abc.com=101 www.xyz.com=102 www.pqr.com=103
;
;
;
1000000 records like above.

I wrote a perl prg. which will process all these records and counts how many times a given link has appeared during that month.
When i run my prg. it takes hours and hours to process these all rec. Is there any EASY and FAST way to count these records.

Well, Do you want the number for just one link that you search for, or all the numbers combined for all links?
