Multithreading Can't Post

I am new to Perl (coming from a Java background) - I need to write a CGI script with a constantly running background task doing the following:

- load file every 10 minutes into memory
- when web request comes in, search data for required information and return it

The file is large and may take 30 seconds or more to read, so the script should still handle requests when loading is happening.

I can't find any info on multithreading and data synchronization in Perl. Can anyone help me?

Re: Multithreading [In reply to] Can't Post

To automate jobs like that you have to run it from the cron loaded in the server. Hopefully your on linux. So read about crontabs. I got started here
http://tlc.perlarchive.com/0001/04.shtml

You could load a cronatab to run a cgi that will load your file, then I'm sure you can find a search engine to search the data at cgi-resources.com.

P.S. Would you take a look at this post, See if you want to support it.
