You really have to answer that question for yourself! Every language has its strengths. We usually try to choose the one which makes our task the easiest.

Probably the best reason for learning perl is to gain access to its huge library of free, well tested and well documented modules on CPAN. I suspect that most of the people on this forum began leaning perl because they wanted to use either database, network, GUI, or OLE modules.

Perl is a complex language, but it does have simple subsets which we can begin using immediately.
