I can think of one thing to add as a con. Compared to c++ or c, you can't use perl to develope windows aplications for the desktop on your pc becuase most people don't have perl installed. Also, c++ can be used to make more complex programs, like internet explorer, or cute ftp. As for internet programming perl tops em all. I've looked into PHP and I have tried writing it a little, but it takes less to do the same thing in perl, I don't like that in PHP there usually is only one way to do something. Plus no split in PHP. This article is pretty good too, I can't find the article I read about direct comparison between perl, php, python, c++, and javascript, but they rated perl the best.
