i have just read up "flock".
never heard of this but it says it can lock a file on opening and unlock it on close.
if i flock the file and while it is locked, another request tries to open the file what happens then. will it wait

When u use flock and the first person locks the file and by the second person tries to open the file it will fail becuse the the first hasnt relesed it but u can do a check and if fails wait and repeat till it allows u to open the file..

Be careful, that the lockfile is located on the same host where the locking program is running. Locking over the network does not necessarily work when using flock().
