LearningPerl New User Aug 9, 2012, 10:29 AM Post #1 of 4 (1461 views) Can I associate an icon with my Perl file in Linux? Can't Post   Hi. I've got a perl script in RedHat Linux. It's for a wide audience at work. I want it to look more professional by associating an icon with the program file. As it is, when someone invokes the program, only a generic rectangle appears in the task bar. Is it possible to have a custom icon appear instead? I know each user could associate an icon with the script, but I want something built into the code or in the program directory alongside the *.pl file so it will be automatic. Thank you! Steve.

I suppose it could be a Linux/Xwindow question, but I don't know. If there's something that belongs in or alongside the Perl script, I'm hoping someone can tell me. Certainly people have associated icons with Perl scripts globally (like for all users, not individually per user). If any such person is reading this, maybe they can say "Here's how you do it" or "yeah, that's got nothing to do with Perl. Try the the Linux forum." But thank you so much for your quick response! [In reply to] Can't Post Well, my answer was probably not very helpful, I wish I was able to give you more help, but I thought you might get a better answer on a Linux dedicated forum. I am using Linux at work quite a bit, but on large application servers with a command line interface, not with a windowing interface. And at home, I haven't used Linux for the last 5 years (unless you consider Cygwin to be a form of Linux, but, then again, it is bash and command line interface).
