Problems with Red Hat 7 Can't Post

Hello to all,
I have been programming in PERL for a while and have been working on creating my own mailing list application so that people can sign up for a mailing list, and I can in turn send out a newsletter. Up till a month of so ago my application was running great and when I would send out an email newsletter the text looked exactly the way I wanted it to.

Recently I have moved my mailing list application to a new server that is running Red Hat 7.0 and have noticed some strange anomalies in the way that the text is being parsed. The most notably is that in the newsletter I am sending out the text will break off with an exclamation mark and start a new line. In other words, if I have a paragraph of text that is greater than a certain number of characters the text is broken off with an exclamation mark and continued on to the next line. Here is what it looks like:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it? It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it?!
It doesn't really matter what text I put here does it!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Has anyone else experience this problem or have any idea what I am talking about? Just so that you know that I am not crazy or that it is my programming I have installed another mailing list application called Subscribe me light from CGIscriptcenter.com, and I got the same results.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nicko

Re: Problems with Red Hat 7 [In reply to] Can't Post

I have no experience with RedHat 7, nor have I ever encountered this problem before. I therefore think it is a problem specific to that version of that OS. Perhaps you could contact the authors of Subscribe Me and ask them if they have received similar complaints from other customers.

Re: Problems with Red Hat 7 [In reply to] Can't Post

Jeff,

Thank you for responding. I did a bit more investigating which shows that the line break offs occur exactly at the 990th character. I did email the authors of Subscribe me lite and they are unfamiliar with the problem. Been asking a lot of people but no one seems to know what the deal is.

I know I am not crazy mainly because I have used similar PERL routines to do the exact same thing on different versions and it works out fine. I agree with you that it has to be OS specific. Once I find something out I will get back to you.

Thanks,

Nicko

Is there anyway to set the size of the buffer in PERL?

Thanks,
