using compression on png files	Can't Post

is there a way to compress png files the same way this site does.

they use a lossy compression.
not sure if this can be done but they have done it and i could do with something similar.

Well, if you accept lossy compression, you can do what you want.

Convert to JPEG with high compression rate, and back to PNG.

The whole point of PNG is that, if so you desire, it is supposed to be lossless; if you accept losses in PNG, it does not make much sense, I would think.

Having said that, I may be wrong, I am really not an expert on these formats, I am just an amateur photographer.

i am only asking as i have a website that uses over 1.5mb of png images on start. and the reason i need png is because of its transparency features.
with that website i can reduce all this to 800kb wich is perfect but the website images change at least once every few days so i need it automated.
could you advise on a system to do this.
i.e
php conversion
perl conversion
exe system command from perl with third party software.
or maybe there is an api on the website i mentioned
quality is not that important but must be ok
