I am not a Perl guru, but I have been working with Scripts for some Years.

Programming with cgi is different from programming with Perl. But when it comes to a file extension .pl or .cgi, it does not really matter wich ending you use. You therfore may change endings from .cgi to .pl without a problem.
Personally, I like Perl Scripting better, because it is more 'transparent' to handle, compared with cgi.
I guess this is what you want to know, and since noone from the Guru's has replied, I did it in my simple and unprofessional way...
