Perl Server Pages?

Perl Server Pages? Can't Post

Almost everybody has heard of ActiveServerPages, or ASP (cough, cough, laugh, laugh - what a stupid idea)

Some have heard of JavaServerPages, or JSP (these are nice, but it's not Perl - JSP is my second choice)

I want to know where PerlServerPages - PSP are! I love Perl, it is my favorite language, my entire website is written using Perl, but there are problems, especially when trying to edit a page in a WYSIWYG editor (my personal favorite - Macromedia Dreamweaver). Try to open a perl file with lots of HTML to be printed - the editor does its best to interpret the code and HTML, but it doesn't really get that far. If I could execute perl commands between two HTML tags, my life would be so much more simple!

I know that in a way, that defeats the purpose of Perl, but I really wish PSP existed - does it? Have I just not heard of it? Where can I get PSP?

Does anyone else share my view? Am I alone? Will I be banned from the Perl Guru because I feel that PSP would be great?

Anyway, PSP needs to become a reality!

Re: Perl Server Pages? [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, I have been thinking of this as well for quite some time, thinking, "Well, why couldn't they exist?"

Go to and take a look right there on the front, I believe.

Have fun! :-)

Take a look at my post 'Calling all OO heads, needs you' and you might just find what you're looking for. I use my version of 'PSP' every day.

We cannot say about PSP cause there is no such software available.

But there is a few software solutions available that I'd like to mention:

- mod_perl - that's a kind of what you are looking for. An apache module that does include perl inside and makes perl scripts fun very quickly, not to mention extended functionality. A free solution. take a start from

- HandyKit v2.1. That's our design of a complete CGI package and template engine needed to build your website's functionality very fast. The name "Handy" means that there is virtually no need to learn - it's very easy to start building sites with it. Also we have S/CGI - a special CGI gateway for extreme loads. Commercial solution.
