perl on a Mac server running WebStar Can't Post

I have developed a small script for reading and parsing files from the weather office. The script works great on a NT server but now I have to move it to a Mac server running WebStar. I continue to recieve an error message "syntax error, near BEGIN at line 0".

I have not used a BEGIN sub in the script. I have changed all the "\" to ":" in the file references, change the opening line to #!perl -w and saved the file as a .acgi using MacPerl's built in editor. The file is located in the cgi-bin and appears to be associated properly. The file was created in "Textpad" and saved in Mac format using ANSI encoding.

Does anybody have any suggestions???
